The Olive Ranch is the perfect destination for families looking for a quirky visit to the Greek island of Crete, set in a picturesque location with amazing views of the white mountains. The Olive Ranch features a range of exciting, innovative and unique attractions, including; quirky accommodation (a converted boat!), an ethical petting farm, horse trekking, donkey rides, bikes and trikes area and much more! Emma and Ivan Napier, Co-Founders of The Olive Ranch said, “We realised when we first arrived in Crete that other than the beautiful beaches, the island had few places to take children. We also noted the disparity between the way animals are viewed here on Crete compared to other European countries. We were keen to create a place that would benefit tourists and locals alike with our ethical principles interwoven throughout the creation and so we embarked on our adventure to create The Olive Ranch!”
The Olive Ranch brand and website launch coincides with the grand opening later this month. They approached BML with a vision to create a place that is great for families; where parents can relax, and children can have fun. After seeing the brand and website we created for Pitch Tents they were eager for us to create something equally as interesting and visually compelling.
The quirky and hand-crafted spirit of The Olive Ranch led us to think about print techniques that embodied those characteristics. Emma and Ivan were keen to give the place, brand and website a magical feel. Inspired by the mix-and-match typography of letterpress, we created a brand identity with a down-to-earth and lively personality. The colours added yet more fun and playfulness to the identity.
The idea for the icons came from outdoors adventure achievement badges. We then used these to head each section of the website with the idea that we wanted The Olive Ranch to feel like an inclusive and fun outdoorsy club. The illustration used throughout the project follows on from the logo treatment; lending a hand-crafted, wholesome feel to the imagery.
Rik, Web Developer at BML said, “With it’s large, colourful images and single-page design, The Olive Ranch website was fun to work on and presented its own unique challenges.” Rik continued, “…The client needed a low-maintenance site which felt family-friendly and reflected their values and focuses on animal well-being. Working closely with The Olive Ranch as they develop their business, we’ve provided an easy-to-use website that lets them show off their beautiful surroundings and fun activities.” Emma and Ivan are really excited to be opening on the 28th April 2018 and they hope the place will be a benefit to the local community. We can’t wait for the vision of The Olive Ranch to become a reality.
